Private Papers by ALEPH Members ------------------------------- Members of the Collaboration must be conscious that a private paper which uses ALEPH data can have unpleasant repercussions within the Collaboration. Consequently any member of the Collaboration planning such a paper must inform their group leader and consult the Spokesperson before the first draft of the paper is produced. The request must make it clear just what ALEPH data will be used and which physics topics will be addressed so that any impact within the Collaboration can be assessed. The Spokesperson will delegate the decision about the paper to the Editorial Board which will examine any difficulties such a paper may cause and advise whether it should proceed. This procedure can be expected to take up to 6 weeks and so any commitments to other collaborators should take this into account. Private papers which involve ideas or techniques which have been, or are likely to have been, discussed within the Collaboration can be particularly sensitive. It would be to the Collaboration's advantage if, in future, all such cases are subject to the same review procedure as the above. Review papers are exempt from this procedure. Any request to use unpublished ALEPH data would only be allowed in very exceptional circumstances.
